In April 2009, following a joint bid by our company, Dalian University of Technology, and Sichuan Tianyi Technology Co., Ltd., our company was ultimately awarded the contract to undertake, as the general contractor, China’s first large-scale industrial CO₂ purification unit for flue gas from a large coal-fired power plant—the 100kt/a CO₂ purification project at Huaneng Shanghai Shidongkou Power Generation Co., Ltd. Led by Huaneng International Power Development Co., Ltd., this project served as an energy-saving and emissions-reduction initiative supporting the 2010 Shanghai World Expo. It marked a significant step in the industrial restructuring of China’s large-scale coal-fired power plants and heralded the beginning of CO₂ emissions reduction retrofits for such facilities, garnering widespread attention from the domestic coal-fired power industry and the global community. This project is also currently the largest of its kind in the world for large-scale coal-fired power plants.

  Building upon the country’s first pilot demonstration facility—the 3kt/a CO₂ purification system at Huaneng Beijing Thermal Power Co., Ltd.—this project achieves further process optimization, higher levels of automation, and more significant energy savings. The project has now officially commenced operations, with the facility operating stably and all performance indicators meeting and exceeding the ideal design requirements. The achievements of this project will make new and positive contributions to ensuring bluer skies, greener lands, and clearer waters in Shanghai.
