Focusing on increasingly popular terms and topics such as the “greenhouse effect,” “energy conservation and emissions reduction,” “resource utilization,” and the “low-carbon economy,” the 2009 Annual Meeting of the Carbon Dioxide Professional Committee of the China Industrial Gases Industry Association was successfully held in Beijing from June 14 to 16.

  Experts and leaders, including Zhou Zhuyue, Vice President of the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association; Sun Guomin, Secretary-General of the China Industrial Gases Industry Association; Fu Chungan, Deputy Secretary-General; and Mr. Yue Gao from the Department of Resource Conservation and Environmental Protection of the National Development and Reform Commission, were invited to attend the annual meeting and deliver opening remarks. Academician Fei Weiyang from Tsinghua University presented a special report titled “Reflections on Global Warming and Countermeasures.” More than 170 delegates attentively listened to and discussed the various agenda items. Ms. Zhao Min, Secretary-General of the Carbon Dioxide Specialized Committee, presented a “Statistical and Analytical Report on the Status of China’s Carbon Dioxide Product Market”; Mr. Shen Jianchong, Vice Chairman, announced the new member units and put forward several requirements and expectations for them. At the meeting, Xu Meinan, Deputy General Manager of Kuai Kai Company, delivered a report titled “Introduction to Low-Cost Carbon Dioxide Production Process Technologies and Facilities”; Professor Tian Hengshui from East China University of Science and Technology spoke on the green energy applications of carbon dioxide. Additionally, the annual meeting featured forward-looking academic presentations by invited experts on topics of general interest to attendees, including “Carbon Dioxide Recovery Technologies,” “Green Application Technologies for Carbon Dioxide,” and relevant policies.

  Through the exchanges and discussions at this conference, attendees gained a more comprehensive understanding of the current state of the CO₂ industry, its development prospects, relevant national industrial policies, and the development and utilization of downstream products. The event provided an excellent platform for enterprises to grasp industry trends under the new circumstances and played a positive role in advancing the development of the CO₂ industry.

  During the conference, the organizers arranged a visit to China’s first pilot demonstration facility for CO₂ emission reduction from flue gas at a coal-fired power plant—the 3kt/a food-grade CO₂ capture and purification system at Huaneng Beijing Thermal Power Co., Ltd. This visit gave participants firm confidence in future construction and management standards for CO₂ facilities, serving as an excellent learning opportunity.
