Warm congratulations on the successful start-up of the 40kt/a liquid carbon dioxide unit at Tianji Group Applied Chemical Co., Ltd.!

  At noon on August 6, 2010, a newly constructed 40kt/a liquid CO₂ unit at Tianji Group Applied Chemical Co., Ltd. began producing liquid CO₂. Following production commissioning and run-in tests on August 6 and 7, the unit is currently operating smoothly. According to on-site testing, the product is odorless and has a purity of 99.93%. All indicators exceed design specifications.


  Tianji Coal Chemical Group, formerly known as the Shanxi Fertilizer Plant, is a large-scale modern enterprise established in the early 1980s by introducing complete sets of patented equipment and technology from eight countries—including Germany, Japan, France, and Norway—to produce high-efficiency compound fertilizers using coal as raw material. After nearly three decades of development, the group has evolved into a large-scale coal chemical industry conglomerate with a multi-product, cross-regional presence. Its core business remains fertilizer production, while it also integrates organic chemicals, advanced coal processing, and fine chemicals.


  However, the ammonia synthesis process generates significant CO₂ emissions. The existing 20kt/a liquid CO₂ facility at Tianji Group Application Chemical Co., Ltd. could no longer meet the demand for carbon dioxide in the surrounding market or the needs of the company’s development. In accordance with the national “Scientific Outlook on Development” and the requirements for developing a low-carbon circular economy, the Group and Application Chemical Co., Ltd. decided to utilize the CO₂ waste gas emitted from the low-temperature methanol stripping unit in the synthetic ammonia system to produce liquid CO₂. This approach not only achieves the goals of emissions reduction and environmental protection but also generates profits for the enterprise and enhances its risk-resilience. After carefully comparing the liquid CO2 production technologies of several domestic companies, Tianshi Group ultimately decided to adopt the international quality standard food-grade liquid carbon dioxide production technology and patented equipment developed by our company to construct a new 40kt/a industrial-grade liquid CO2 plant. Our company was tasked with determining the design plan based on the composition of the feed gas, as well as conducting the engineering design and commissioning. After more than three months of intensive construction, the plant began feedstock testing on August 6, 2010. Through the joint efforts of company leadership and technical personnel, the plant achieved a successful first-time startup and produced qualified products.
