On September 11, 2011, Guangxi Hechi Chemical Co., Ltd. announced that the new 60kt/a carbon dioxide plant constructed by our company had begun producing qualified “food-grade liquid carbon dioxide meeting international quality standards.” The product has a purity of over 99.99%, with total hydrocarbon content <10 ppm and benzene content <5 ppb. Following a brief production commissioning period, the unit is operating normally, with all production and process indicators exceeding design specifications. Product quality meets the National Standard for Food-Grade Liquid Carbon Dioxide (GB10621-2006), the International Soft Drink Association (ISBT) standard, as well as the corporate standards of Coca-Cola and PepsiCo.
Guangxi Hechi Chemical Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China National Chemical Corporation (ChemChina), ranks among the top 50 enterprises in Guangxi, the top 500 in China, and the top 100 in China’s fertilizer industry. It is a comprehensive chemical group with an annual production capacity of 200,000 metric tons of synthetic ammonia, 320,000 metric tons of urea, 700,000 metric tons of cement, and 30,000 metric tons of methanol. As the company has grown, the volume of CO₂-rich gas generated during production has increased significantly, and the company’s existing 30kt/a liquid CO₂ facility is far from sufficient to meet the demands for emissions reduction and recycling. Consequently, the company decided to construct a new 60kt/a food-grade liquid carbon dioxide plant meeting international quality standards. This initiative fully utilizes the industrial carbon dioxide waste gas emitted from the MDEA decarbonization unit of the company’s synthetic ammonia system to produce liquid carbon dioxide products in line with market demand. This approach not only meets environmental requirements for emissions reduction but also generates profits for the company and enhances its risk-resilience. After a thorough comparison of various domestic liquid carbon dioxide production technologies, the company ultimately adopted the new technology and patented products for producing food-grade liquid carbon dioxide to international quality standards developed by our company. Due to the complex composition of Hehua Company’s feed gas, with total hydrocarbon content exceeding 5,000 ppm, conventional hydrocarbon removal and purification units were unable to handle it. To address this, our company redesigned the dehydrocarbonation reactor with specialized features and optimized the overall design to convert high-concentration hydrocarbons, thereby meeting national standards for food-grade liquid carbon dioxide (GB10621-2006) and other relevant specifications.
The international-standard food-grade liquid carbon dioxide production technology and patented products developed by our company were successfully implemented in a single attempt at Guangxi Hechi Chemical Co., Ltd. The complete system offers outstanding advantages, including low investment costs, low energy consumption, high product quality, high purity, advanced technology, stable production, and a high degree of automation. It represents the optimal choice for synthetic ammonia and urea manufacturers seeking to fulfill their social responsibilities, conserve energy, reduce emissions, develop a circular low-carbon economy, and enhance their overall competitiveness.
