Our company has been awarded the contract for Shenhua Group’s R&D project on key technologies for CO₂ compression and purification at a 200 MW oxygen-enriched combustion carbon capture coal-fired power plant.

Release Date:2014-09-16

In June 2014, our company was awarded the contract for China’s first R&D project on key technologies for CO₂ compression and purification at a 200 MW oxygen-enriched combustion coal-fired power plant with carbon capture.

The R&D project for key technologies in CO₂ compression and purification for a 200MW oxygen-enriched combustion carbon capture coal-fired power plant was publicly tendered by Shenhua Guohua (Beijing) Electric Power Research Institute Co., Ltd. More than ten domestic companies participated in the bidding process. After multiple rounds of evaluation and comprehensive assessment by Shenhua, our company was ultimately awarded the contract.

Shenhua Guohua (Beijing) Electric Power Research Institute Co., Ltd. and our company jointly developed and established a project test platform to conduct experiments and perform system design for the 200MW project. Leveraging our own technical capabilities, the company has built a technical foundation for CO₂ emission reduction through oxy-fuel combustion, providing technical support in core processes, system integration, and operational control for the design and construction of a 200MW-class oxy-fuel combustion carbon capture demonstration project.

“Research and Development of Key Technologies for CO₂ Compression and Purification in 200MW Oxy-Fired Carbon Capture Coal-Fired Power Plants” is one of the sub-projects under China Shenhua Group’s major scientific and technological innovation initiative, “Research and Development of Technology and System Integration for Million-Ton-Scale Oxy-Fired Carbon Capture Coal-Fired Power Plants.” The project aims to explore technologies and methods for the synergistic removal of pollutants such as SO₂, NOx, and Hg from flue gas during the compression of CO₂ from flue gas into liquid CO₂ that meets the requirements for storage or industrial use, thereby developing a new, highly efficient CO₂ compression and purification technology with independent intellectual property rights that is adapted to the flue gas conditions of oxygen-enriched combustion.

At the end of July, representatives from the client attended the first design review and exchange meeting for the project, which has now entered the design implementation phase.
