The project on oxygen-enriched combustion and CO₂ compression and purification using a circulating fluidized bed, a collaboration between the Chinese Academy of Sciences and our company, has officially launched.

Release Date:2016-03-23

On August 7, 2015, a technical team from the Institute of Engineering Thermophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, visited our company for technical exchanges, and the joint project on CO₂ compression and purification using oxygen-enriched combustion in a circulating fluidized bed was officially launched.

The Institute of Engineering Thermophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, is a national research institution directly under the Chinese Academy of Sciences that engages in research and development in the field of engineering thermophysics. It has long been dedicated to the research and development of high-efficiency, clean combustion technologies for circulating fluidized beds. The Institute of Engineering Thermophysics is currently undertaking the Chinese Academy of Sciences Strategic Priority Research Program project titled “Circulating Fluidized Bed Oxygen-Enriched Combustion Technology.” It has successfully developed a 1 MW pilot-scale circulating fluidized bed oxygen-enriched combustion facility and conducted a series of related studies. To realize a full-process circulating fluidized bed oxygen-enriched combustion system, the institute plans to conduct research and development on CO₂ compression and purification technology using oxygen-enriched combustion.

Based on our company’s technical strengths and engineering experience in the field of CO₂ recovery and utilization, as well as the research achievements we have attained in collaboration with Shenhua Guohua (Beijing) Electric Power Research Institute Co., Ltd. in the area of CO₂ compression and purification for oxygen-enriched combustion, the Institute of Engineering Thermophysics ultimately selected our company as its partner for this technical collaboration. Leaders from both parties signed a cooperation agreement in July 2015 and formulated a specific implementation plan.

We are confident that in the near future, the circulating fluidized bed oxygen-enriched combustion CO₂ compression and purification technology will be widely promoted and applied in coal-fired power plants both domestically and internationally due to its excellent technical performance and environmental benefits, thereby generating immeasurable social benefits. Both parties will actively leverage their respective strengths to jointly promote the innovation and development of circulating fluidized bed oxygen-enriched combustion technology.
